Foods and Drinks That Can Benefit Your Teeth

It may come as a surprise to learn that certain foods and drinks can improve the appearance and overall health of your teeth and gums. Of course, this brings a completely new meaning to, “You are what you eat!”

Research shows certain bacteria that live in your mouth convert carbohydrates and sugars into acids, which can attack and deteriorate the enamel of your teeth. To help keep your teeth and gums healthy, consider eating some of the foods we have listed below:

  • Chicken and other meats:

Many meats are rich in phosphorus and vitamin D, which promote healthy bones and teeth. Furthermore, the consumption of meat can reduce decay.

  • Cheese:

Like meats, cheese contains high levels of calcium and phosphate. In addition, cheese can balance the pH levels in your mouth and can help produce more saliva. Studies show that cheese can also rebuild tooth enamel and kill bacteria that causes gum disease and cavities.

  • Milk:

Dairy products such as milk are very low in acidity and do not contain great amount of sugar. Because milk is rich in calcium, it can help fortify your teeth.

  • Celery:

Eating celery can massage your gums and clean your teeth. Additionally, it can help your mouth produce more saliva, which can neutralize bacteria that causes cavities.

  • Crunchy fruits such as apples and pears:

Apples and pears are high in water content, which can dilute the amount of sugars these fruits contain. Like celery, crunchy fruits can cause your mouth to produce more saliva and fight against unwanted tooth decay.
